More than 800 needy learners of schools in Matjhabeng and Masilonyana have benefited from a donation made by a mining company with operations in the area.
“Harmony Gold Mining brought a big smile to needy learners from different schools in these municipalities, which form part of the Lejweleputswa District Municipality,” says Khanyi Magubane, spokesperson for the mine.
The handover was done on 17 March in Welkom. Harmony disbursed 800 pairs of school shoes, 135 calculators and 800 solar backpacks.
The general manager of Bambanani operation, Joseph Mohlatsane, who benefitted from programmes of this nature some 20 years ago, shared some words of encouragement with the learners who attended the handover.
“We have leaders from these communities at Harmony today because of initiatives like this one. We thank everyone for playing their part in the lives of these future leaders,” Mohlatsane told the learners.
