The police are investigating a case of murder after the gruesome discovery of a woman’s body in a rivier at Winburg.

The body of Matshediso Julia Nkhatho (41) was found in the river at Winburg on 26 November.

Her husband had reported her missing, and stated that she was last seen on 25 November when she left to Kimberley to submit tender documents. He said she was with a man who was apparently assisting her.

The initial missing person’s report stated that Nkhatho was travelling in her charcoal Volkswagen Polo with registration number HVK 507 FS.

Then on 26 November at about 11:00 a fisherman saw the body of a female floating in the Sandriver near Allemanskraal, at Winburg. He informed the police and her body was retrieved by police divers. Her hands had been tied. The vehicle driven by the late Nkhatho was found abandoned in Mooi Street in the Welkom CBD.

The deceased was positively identified on 28 November, and the police started with the murder investigation.

Det. Sgt. Andrew Lechesa of Welkom Serious and Violent Crimes are the investigating officer. Anyone with information must contact him on 082-493-1204 or on the Crime Stop number 08600 10111.
