Residents of Matjhabeng are fed-up and are demanding urgent action to address persistent water leaks in the municipality.
The water leaks compromise water pressure and disrupt the residents’ daily routines, making basic tasks such as showering and doing laundry challenging. Frequent interruptions in the water supply add to the inconvenience and discomfort experienced by the communities.
Untreated leaks lead to substantial water loss and increased utility expenses for both the municipality and residents, while repairs and property damage impose additional financial burdens.
The urgency to address the water leaks is heightened by the ongoing water crisis and water shedding measures. Unresolved leaks contribute to the depletion of water resources and exacerbate the challenges faced by the community. Therefore, the municipality must prioritise the immediate resolution of leaks to optimise water utilisation and minimise strain on our already limited supply.
René Steyn, DA councillor for the Matjhabeng Local Municipality, says the persistent water leaks are causing significant hardships for residents.
She has suggested certain measures to be taken by the municipality to address this urgent matter, including swift response and communication, comprehensive leak detection and repair, regular infrastructure maintenance, resource allocation and planning, and transparency and accountability.
“We urge the municipality to prioritise this issue. By working together and implementing these recommendations, we can improve the water infrastructure and enhance the quality of life for all residents.
“We call on the municipality administration to listen to our concerns and take swift and sustained action to address the water leaks, restore water pressure, and alleviate the financial burdens faced by the community. Let us seize the opportunity to showcase efficient and effective water management in our municipality,” says Steyn.
