The stretch of N1 near Winburg has become notorious for the amount of accidents that occur on this road.
As part of a pre-Easter celebration the Lejweleputswa SAPS held a prayer session there.
This was done in conjunction with the Winburg Roman Catholic Church.
“As the result of several accidents happening in the N1 road near Winburg, a prayer session was held on the road to pray against accidents and for the hand of the Almighty God to be upon motorists,” says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa SAPS, and also chairperson for the Lejweleputswa District Spiritual Crime Prevention.
Thakeng explained the mission of Spiritual Crime Prevention was to support police members in their endeavour to fight crime, and also to prevent crime in the spiritual realm.
“SAPS members must be God fearing, and residents must stop trying to corrupt our SAPS members.
“Residents must not look away when crime is committed in Winburg,” says Thakeng.
He delivered the benediction.
The various organisations and representatives of services who attended the service included the community policing forum, the Department of Health, Matjhabeng fire fighters, emergency services, ministers of various churches, Correctional Services, Spiritual Crime Prevention in the Lejweleputswa District and the SAPS members of Winburg and Verkeerdevlei.
