The Welkom police are looking for the driver of a car who hit and killed a road construction worker on the Bronville Virginia road on Saturday morning.
The construction worker was busy placing road signs when the car struck him. The motorist sped away from the scene.
At about 03:40 on the R730 at Bronville workers were busy placing road signs when the incident happened.
The Bronville police were called to attend an accident scene and found a male face down in a pool of blood. “According to a witness, he was hit by a vehicle and the driver sped away from the scene. The man died on the scene as a result of the injuries he had sustained. A case of culpable homicide was registered for further investigation,” says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa SAPS.
Motorists are sternly warned to drive slowly on this road as it is under construction. Road signs are clearly visible.
The deceased was later identified as Alizwa Mamzeli (22) residing in Extention 18 Bronville. His next of kin have been informed.
