In little more than two hours, in the region of a quarter of R1 million was raised for the Welkom SPCA.
This phenomenal amount was raised by a panel of 11 prominent Welkomites during the first ever Unleash the Hound, Cool Dog campaign.
This was definitely the biggest single day-fundraiser ever held by the Welkom SPCA. The panel of fundraisers comprised prominent Welkomites Jessica Santos (Dame Bigga Knees), Jessica van der Merwe (Latoya Pom-Pom), Gerda Janse van Rensburg (Drew-Pee Bassey), Mylene Bosch (Betsie Bokser), Helen de Jonge (Spotty Mation), Kevin Lombard (Labbitail Wagner), Zack Roussouw (Russelling Jack-Wack), Igor Scheurkogel (Col. Shnow Zerhauzer), Alexi Abatzaglou (Quarter Hounder), Petar Males (Rottie Whiner) and Jakes Jooste (Bully-Dog Gruff).
Males and Jooste took the day with their whopping accumulative R113 000.
The competition was high and the “betting” more often than not went off the charts (and definitely under the belt) as the top dogs pushed and harried, and rumbled and growled and bullied for top honours in this enthralling money raising venture.
Telephones buzzed, voices were raised, emotions ran high, and the gongs rang out as the one pledge after the other rolled in, once again showing the quality of Welkomites and their love for our furry and feathered friends.
