Lejweleputswa MM, Dikane, has a clear vision

Jerene Dikane, executive speaker of the Lejweleputswa District Council, was born in Monyakeng, Wesselsbron.

Jerence Dikane is the Executive speaker of the Lejweleputswa District Municipality.

Jerene Dikane, executive speaker of the Lejweleputswa District Council, was born in Monyakeng, Wesselsbron.

He became involved in politics at an early age and has led the Congress of South African Students (Cosas), as well as the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL). He served as the deputy regional chairperson.

Dikane now serves as the regional deputy chairperson of the ANC.

At the Nala Municipality he was, amongst others, the public participation officer in the office of the Nala speaker; the parliamentary liaison media officer (PLO) and special programmes co-ordinator in the office of the MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture; as well as the manager in the office of the Nala speaker.

Dikane says he will work with all councillors from the various political organisations in the district.

“My wish is to ensure that the people of Lejweleputswa work closely with the municipality and hold it responsible. I want to circumvolve municipal council sittings across all local municipalities to ensure full public participation and interactions between the people and their leaders,” he says.

“There will be a synergy between the office of the speaker and the office of the district executive mayor in order to collaborate their programmes for the benefit of Lejweleputswa. There has to be a harmonious sharing of resources for an advanced move in the Integrated Development Plans (IDPs) of all the municipalities,” says Dikane.

One of Dikane’s visions was realised last week when he held a two-day hands-on support session to empower councillors on how to execute their duties.

“This capacity building workshop was necessary to outline the separation of powers so that all the role players and stakeholders can be convinced of their areas of work,” he says.

Dikane says the functionality of the municipality is dependent on working relations between councillors and municipal officials.
