A body found in an existing grave in the Thabong Cemetery, was found to be that of the 30-year-old Disebo Portia Mosupa from Welkom, who was reported missing.
Mosupa was an employee of the Matjahbeng Local Municipality in Welkom, where she worked as an acting youth development officer.
The search for Mosupa, led by a team that included the police, community members and family, began after she was reported missing on Monday, 15 July.
This led the investigating team to the Thabong Cemetery where forensic investigators dug up the grave to retrieve the body. Netwerk24 reported earlier that Mosupa’s father visited her home on Sunday, 14 July, and did not find her. When he went to visit her again on Monday, the house was ransacked. That was when he reported her missing.
A 37-year-old suspect has since been arrested for murder, and the investigation continues.
This tragedy is being mourned by her family, friends, and colleagues on social media. Anyone with information that could lead to additional arrests in Mosupa’s case can call Sgt Zuzeka Kobuwe of Welkom Detective Services on 078-683-9201, or the Stop Crime number, 08600-10111.
