The Welkom police have launched a manhunt for seven men following the cold-blooded murder of a Welkom couple and the horrific gang rape of young woman.
The couple’s daughter narrowly escaped the rape ordeal when she managed to escape from the perpetrators.
The nightmare ordeal happened on Sunday 14 June in Rheederspark, Welkom.
“It is alleged that four Lesotho males were visiting the couple, when the husband instructed them to leave as it was becoming late. An argument ensued between the men, and the suspects then allegedly shot the couple in the head,” says Brig. Sam Makhele, spokesperson for the Free State SAPS.
The murdered couple, Marion Chongo (51) and Joyce Ntemutse Duma (38) died at the scene.
According to statements the men grabbed the deceased’s daughter, undressed her and attempted to rape her.
“When they did not succeed they grabbed another young woman (29)who was visiting there. She told police that the men dragged her into the bushes where seven men proceeded to rape her. They later released her.
No-one has been arrsted and the Welkom Police are investigating murder, kidnapping and attempted rape.
