Scarcely had the construction work at the Chris Hani Park Sewage Pump Station in Bronville commenced, when opportunistic thieves stole the massive motor from there.

Mbulelo Mpoipoi (28) and Mohau Fanyane (36) appeared in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court on 22 November for the theft of the big motor which belongs to the Matjhabeng Municipality.

The case has been postponed to 1 December for bail application.

“Information was received, and the members of the Lejweleputswa District Reaction Team, the Traffic Department and the Matjhabeng Investigation Team stopped a bakkie with two occupants.

“They requested permission to search, and the motor was discovered on the back of the bakkie,” says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer of the Lejweleputswa police.

Thakeng says the men could not provide official documentation to be in possession of the property.

“They were arrested and the bakkie was seized.”

A case of theft was registered and the investigation was assigned to Sgt. Hennita Motaung.

The district commissioner of Lejweleputswa, Maj. Gen. Lerato Molale, applauded this joint operation.

“We regard these arrests as a breakthrough, as the destruction of infrastructure will not be tolerated,” said Molale.
