The Allanridge Men’s Forum celebrated International Men’s Day (IMD) in the last week of November at the Ark of Salvation Church in Naykallong.

Past. Gordon Williams, chairman of the group, said that IMD is celebrated every year in November to celebrate the achievements and positive contribution that men have made in their communities.

“We celebrated this day to recognized and appreciated nine men for their contribution in our community, and they each received certificates,” said Williams.

“We celebrated this day to recognized and appreciated nine men for their contribution in our community, and they each received certificates,” said Williams.

He said although IMD was started in 1960, South Africa first celebrated it on 6 December 2008 at the Rabasotho Hall in Thembisa. “Close to 3 000 men from all provinces attended this session,” said Williams.

In November 2009 the deputy president of South Africa, Kgalema Mothlante, was the key note speaker at the IMD celebration held at the Orlando Community Hall in Soweto, which was attended by 5 000 men from across Africa.

The Allanridge Men’s Forum was the only men’s forum in Lejweleputswa that celebrated International Men’s Day, says Williams.
