An 11-year-old girl was allegedly hacked with an axe in Stilte Park, Meloding, on 16 March and the suspect killed by mob justice not long thereafter.
It is believed the girl, Nthabiseng Motsoaosile, suffered a head strike.
When police members arrived at the scene, her body was in a pool of blood and covered with a blanket.
There were a number of community members present and the father of the deceased confirmed the victim was his daughter. She was certified dead by Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
Her suspected killer was followed to where he was hiding, and was murdered by the residents. He was also certified dead at the crime scene.
The police are investigating a double murder case.
Community members are sternly warned not to take the law into their own hands but hand over people believed to be suspects to the nearest police station, so that a thorough investigation can be conducted.
