The wellness centre on the Welkom campus of the Central University of Technology (CUT) led a march against gender-based violence and femicide on 2 November. It was organised by counselling psychologist Ntuthuko Myaka. “We submitted a memorandum of demands to the Thabong Police Station. We requested a heightened presence of police around the CUT, especially in residential areas where students reside in Thabong. We would also like to have an improved reporting process in which victims are treated with respect and dignity when being interviewed. There should also be proper feedback to victims, and clear recordkeeping through which victims will not be lost within the system,” she stated. A total of 135 students and staff took part in the march. Photo: Marti Will
