Frustrated resident, Welkom:
I am encouraged by the positive words coming from our new executive mayor, Thanduxolo Kalipha. I trust he can convert his words to actions.
On that score, I have just spent a “pleasant” 15 minutes in the street outside my property putting my own rubbish back into new plastic bags, the original ones having been shredded by unknown people or dogs. Bags of rubbish adorn our streets for days and occasionally weeks.
It just needs the will and good management:
- Re-establish the weekly collection cycle so that there is a specific day on which our rubbish is collected (to eliminate the unsightly and unhealthy storage of household rubbish in our streets).
- Re-establish the system whereby we can pay for an ad hoc service for a municipal truck to collect excessive garden and building refuse (to reduce the volume of general rubbish that requires regular collection).
- Ensure that the municipal dump site is accessible and safe for residents to self-dump (to reduce the fly-dumping in the peripheral roads around towns).
