BLOEMFONTEIN – After he fell down a cliff and spent the night on the mountain, a 78-year-old man was rescued on Tuesday 13 January in a huge effort in Qwaqwa.
Tumo Mahlangu told the police he was walking on the mountain top near his village on Monday 12 January. Here, he fell down the cliff and got stuck. He phoned the Phuthaditjhaba Community Service Centre and a rescue mission began at around 16:05.


The police, fire brigade, paramedics and rescue officers of the Department of Health and College of Emergency Care went to the scene.

The rescue mission continued on Tuesday with a team that hoisted Mahlangu up the mountain to safety. He was treated and transported to the Mofumahadi Manapo Mopeli Regional Hospital in Phuthaditjhaba. He did not sustain any fractures and is in a stable condition.
