The three major court cases that have gripped the Goldfields in the last part of 2024, have again been in court.
The two sexual assault cases have been postponed to early next year and the former executive mayor of Matjhabeng, Thanduxolo Khalipha, has been sentenced.
The shocking cases involving a pastor and his wife, who allegedly stabbed a dog to death, and assaulted the dog owner in the process – and who were later also charged relating to the sexual assault of a minor – have been postponed to 7 February.
The couple appeared in court on 11 December, and will remain in custody. The case has been transferred to the regional court.
The new court date for a Welkom teacher (38) and his girlfriend (33) has been postponed to 8 January.
The couple are facing charges of rape; sexual assault; common assault; exposure or display of or causing exposure or display of child pornography or pornography to children; as well as sexual assault and grooming.
The victims are two girls, aged three and four, and a six-year-old boy.
The case has been postponed awaiting a forensic social worker’s report. They both remain in custody.
Lastly, in the cases involving Khalipha – who was found guilty on charges of common assault and crimen injuria – he has been sentenced to a payable fine of R5 000 or three months imprisonment for count 1 of assault.
He also received a fine of R1 000 or one month imprisonment each for common assault and crimen injuria.
He was further declared unfit to possess a firearm.
