We are currently witnessing worldwide division and hatred. It can easily twist our perspective and sway us to demonise one group of people and favour another.

We must recognise that this is the strategy of all human beings’ one common enemy. We can be drawn into factions and unbiblical conflict if we do not see this truth. Our enemy is not flesh and blood.

In 2 Corinthians 10: 4 we read: For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty for pulling down of strongholds.

How do we wage war against an unseen enemy? The greatest victory ever won was by the King who chose to use the greatest weapon of all to conquer our common enemy once and for all. Jesus confused even his own followers by not leading a cavalry of warriors but by choosing love for his children as arsenal. Isaiah 53:7 says: He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before his shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.

That day Jesus made a public spectacle of the enemy who thought they had won. The crucifixion was brutal, aggressive and violent but Jesus still responded in love and asked the Father to forgive His children. Jesus’ response overcame the violent act of his crucifixion and allowed him to take back the authority for all mankind.

Without love, we have a low rank in the spirit. The Word says we are but a “clanging cymbal” without it. There was a reason Mary was free when Jesus called her name. Perhaps she had never before heard her name said with such love, compassion, mercy and grace, such as which caused disruption in the spiritual realm and freed her from torment.

There is no greater weapon than love. It goes beyond all logic and human justice and cries for mercy instead. It leaves the enemy weaponless and defeated as it did when love sacrificed himself on the cross. It was not loud, raging hate that won on that day.

No, it was love that roared louder and brighter that day. May we learn to love with every fibre of our being, so we may reflect, and give glory to, the one who loved us first.
