The former executive mayor of both Matjhabeng Local Municipality and Lejweleputswa District Municipality, Sebenzile Ngangelizwe, died on Wednesday, 29 March.

Cllr. Ngangelizwe was a hands-on leader who was always ready to serve.

He served in council as, among others, a chief whip, then as executive mayor of both Matjhabeng and Lejweleputswa.

Ngangelizwe was the executive mayor of Lejweleputswsa from 2006 till 2010, the executive mayor of Matjhabeng between 2010 and 2016, and executive mayor of the Lejweleputswa once more from 2016 to 2021.

During his last term at Lejweleputswa, the municipality attained unqualified audit reports.

Also during this time, Ngangelizwe was appointed as one of the two South African Government Association (SALGA) deputy presidents.

The memorial service was held in the Ferdie Meyer Hall in Welkom on Wednesday (05/04), with the funeral held on 15 April in Butterworth, Eastern Cape.
