Xolisile Goodness Motsetse, a Thabong police officer, is celebrating 12 years on the force. She describes her journey as inspiring and empowering.

Motsetse was born and bred in Thabong and matriculated from the Welkom High School. She furthered her studies at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), where she obtained a diploma in Accounting.

Growing up, Motsetse did not see herself as a policewoman, but believes fate destined her to be one. However, she became passionate about the role once within the organisation.

Motsetse worked in the crime prevention department for eight years before transferring to the finance department.

She lists humour as one of her challenges at work, as some people underestimated her as to how she handles and reprimands perpetrators with her soft humour.

Motsetse says her challenges have made her stronger, more confident, and stand her ground.

Being a policewoman has been inspiring and empowering for Motsetse because, in most cases, vulnerable victims see her as their light of hope and children see her as their role model.

“Good work ethics played a major role in my career. I have to be professional and have the ability to control my emotions at work regardless of the situation at hand,” says Motsetse.

Her advice to young women who would like to join the force one day, is to believe in their dream, be strong at heart and have the resilience to withstand any difficulties.
