The six-man local group Mohlakeng Acapellas, from Nyakallong, Allanridge, has been nominated in the Mzansi Arts and Media Awards (Mama).
They are nominated in the best musical group category.
Jimmy Mokoena, manager of the Mohlakeng Acapellas, says they are fast making a name for themselves on the local music scene.
“They have already had the opportunity to perform with The Soiland they are currently working with Ladysmith Black Mambazo under the LBM Mobile Academy,” says Mokoena.
The group has won numerous competitions and was a finalist in the Bloem Show Talent Search competition for two years running. They have also performed at the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz development stage.
The Mohlakeng Acapellas have performed at prestigious festivals in the province, with a few of their hits being playlisted on various radio stations.
They recently released a collaboration song titled “Khuzekani/Asibavikele” with Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Mondli Ngcobo.
This song is currently enjoying airplay on various music TV channels.
