To identify winners from technical high schools in specialisation fields, district competitions were held in various parts of the Free State to identify learners to represent a disctrict at the provincial specialisation competition.

During the first two weeks of August, the specilisation competitions in Automotive, Fitting and Machining, Welding, Construction, Plumbing, Woodworking, Electronics, Power Systems and Digital Systems took place.

Eight learners and two teachers of the Welkom Technical High School qualified, taking the top three positions in their various categories.

The provincial finals took place in Bloemfontein from 30 August to 2 September.

Dylon Lötter took first place in Automotive, Kgolanano Malanja second place in Automotive, and Nkosi Kutyunga first place in Electronics.

Teaching staff Fanie Pretorius and Eric Litjamela both took a second place in Welding and Power Systems respectively.
