About 200 Gr. 9 learners from the Lejweleputswa district were exposed to the exciting world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (Stem) subjects during a visit to the Central University of Technology, (CUT) Free State, Stem Academy.

On 29 April the learners could observe lab experiments, and they were informed about career choices unlocked by Stem subjects. Also, it was explained that these subjects can equip learners to find solutions to the problems facing society.

The learners visited the agriculture and clinical science labs and also the health sciences lab, where they attended lessons and were exposed various careers in Clinical Technology.

Refilwe Ntsane of the Reatlehile Secondary School in Virginia said she was intrigued by the various lessons.

“I am definitely continuing with Maths and Science until matric. I can see myself in a Stem career, especially in Clinical Technology.”

Katleho Goliathe of the Rearabetswe Secondary School in Odendaalsrus welcomed the exposure, as it gave him more options when choosing a career.

“I am still not sure about a career in Stem, but I now have more options to choose from and I will consider all these when picking my subjects in Gr. 10.”
