Various pressing issues including school safety, crime prevention, and a state of readiness strategy were all discussed at a meeting held by the Lejweleputswa District Youth and Social Responsibility Priority Committee.

This took place on 8 January in the Lejweleputswa District boardroom.

It was attended by the station youth coordinators, community policing officers (CPOS) and their youth desk representatives, corporate communications, Lejweleputswa district youth desk committee members and representatives of the Department of Social Development.

The meeting underscored a multi-disciplinary approach to youth development and crime prevention.

Key issues discussed included the state of readiness for the back-to-school campaigns, initiation schools, gangsterism, drugs and substance abuse, school safety and teenage pregnancy.

These various focus areas remain a critical part of ensuring a safe and supportive environment for learners across the district.

During the meeting issues including coordinated planning, proactive engagement, and stakeholder collaboration in addressing youth-related challenges were addressed.

It was resolved that school visits will be conducted throughout the district when schools reopen.

There will be specific emphasis on identified problematic schools within the Lejweleputswa District.

The committee reaffirmed its commitment to implement preventative interventions, awareness programmes, and sustained partnerships aimed at promoting learner safety, discipline and their overall well-being.
