In Ephesians our destiny is explained so beautifully.
We read in Ephesians 2:10 that we have become His poetry, re-created people that will fulfil the destiny He has given each of us.
“For we are joined to Jesus, the Anointed One. Even before we were born, God planned our destiny and the good works we would do to fulfil it.”
Reading this amazing verse, that we are created to be agents of goodness, I just want to share a few thoughts from the book Why kindness is good for you by D.R. Hamilton.
Kindness in the world will make the world a better place for us all. Kindness can make you happier. It can alleviate depression and improve relationships.
Kindness is good for your heart and immune system, and the newest studies even show it can give you a longer life. Kindness is human nature.
However, studies have proven that in our modern fast-paced society, people have learned to look out mostly for themselves and not so much for others – we have almost forgotten to be kind to strangers.
Bearing this in mind, let’s take to heart that scientific studies have proven that “if you want to be happier, be kind”.
One example of such a study concluded by a scientist from the University of British Columbia in Canada in 2008, proved that spending money or time on others was a definite way to make yourself happier.
It was found that regular volunteering led to improvements in six aspects of well-being, namely: happiness, life satisfaction, self-esteem, sense of control over life, physical health, and lack of depression.
God, our loving Creator, programmed us that when we help one another, or merely even give our time to someone, we become happier, healthier and more fulfilled. So, let’s be kind. – Dr Jackie Botes is of the AFM Deo Doxa
