Operation Basadi, a multidisciplinary and female-led joint operation, proceeded to lay down the authority of the state in a roadblock and visible policing patrols.
August is marked as Women’s Month, which is why Operation Basadi was organised and conducted in Theunissen on 4 August by the women in blue of the Lejweleputswa District. The operation was led by Cols Senobia Solomon and Beulah Seyaya. Brig. Disebo Cezula was the overall commander of this operation.
Operation Basadi comprised female police officials of the Welkom Public Order Policing (POP) team, Welkom police members, Welkom police members, Welkom K9 unit, Bronville police, Welkom Flying Squad, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel.
In total, 193 vehicles and 432 persons were searched. One person was arrested for possession of dagga found inside a taxi minibus, and one person for illegal immigration. Two shebeens were closed and one Road Traffic Act summons was issued.
Visible policing was conducted in the streets of Masilo, showing the force of police members and stamping the state’s authority, claiming back the streets from criminals.
