The prompt reaction of the community, police and a private security company led to the arrests of two men who had robbed a cash loan business in Odendaalsrus.

On 10 January a 41-year-old employee of a cash loan business in Church Street, Odendaalsrus, was confronted by two unknown men who pushed her inside the business premises. She had just returned from purchasing a cooldrink.

She tried to fight back but was hit in the face with a piece of metal. She noticed a third suspect was sitting in front of the business premises in the park opposite.

One of the perpetrators took an undisclosed amount of cash. The employee managed to press the panic button and residents, police members, and a private security company.

The three perpetrators were arrested by WO Johannes du Plessis of the Odendaalsrus detective services, and have all been charged with business robbery.

The acting district commissioner of Lejweleputswa, Brig. Mzondi Mojafi, applauded the residents and the private security company who assisted Du Plessis with the arrest. Mojafi says the police in the Lejweleputswa district will continue working together with private security companies to eradicate crime.
