The National Business Initiative (NBI), together with PepsiCo, have provided sanitation agents to Matjhabeng to do groundwork on water challenges faced by its community.

The agents are provided through the Department of Water and Sanitation’s (DWS) ministerial intervention which has also donated 100 lockable manhole covers to Matjhabeng in areas where they have been removed.

The lockable manhole covers are in response to vandalism and damage to infrastructure around Matjhabeng.

The agents are based in Thabong, Kutlwanong, and Nyakallong. They report citizens’ complaints to municipal officials in the infrastructure directorate.

“They serve as an extension of the municipality’s reach in a bid to speed up service delivery as foot soldiers and champions of the initiative on the ground; while restoring human dignity by prioritizing water and sanitation issues.” said Tshidiso Tlale, the mayor’s spokesperson.

The agents will educate the community on how to take better care of the infrastructure in order for the investment to have a long lifespan and achieve the desired outcome.

The NBI, PepsiCo and Matjhabeng Local Municipality would like to appeal to the community to join hands in caring for infrastructure as well as report issues of vandalism or malicious damage to infrastructure.

“The Matjhabeng Local Municipality would like to thank the NBI and PepsiCo, and looks forward to a long and fruitful partnership.” said Tlale
