The 21-year-old Fika Gladile was sentenced to 15 years in jail for the murder of his mother.
He was sentenced in the Welkom Regional Magistrates Court on 27/03.
Last year on 31 March the mother, Ngxiki Sizewe (40), was reported missing at the Bronville Police Station.
An investigation was conducted and this led to the gruesome find of her remains in a shallow grave inside a shack.
The SAPS members who were investigating the missing person case visited her home in extention 19 Hani Park, Bronville, and upon arrival, found a broken bedroom window, blood stains and strands of dreadlocks near the window.
They followed the blood stain trail, which led them to the shack at the back of the house.
There they found loose soil, and when they dug up the soil they found Sizewe’s body.
The Welkom Forensic Pathology unit was summoned to the scene and the body of the missing person was found and retrieved from the shallow grave.
The missing person file was then changed to a murder charge, and the investigation continued.
On 1 April 2022 Fika Gladile, the son of the deceased was arrested and interrogated by Capt. Schalk Steyn which led to a confession.
