The brutal murder of a 41-year-old Welkom woman has left her family reeling with shock.
On Saturday, 30 August, at about 11:00, police were summoned to a scene in Long Road, Lakeview, where they found the motionless body of a woman.
“The victim was discovered with open wounds at the back of her head. According to reports, she had left her home at about 06:00 on the same day to perform cleansing rituals in the field. However, her daughter began to worry when the victim, after some time, failed to return home,” says Sgt Palesa Thabana, spokesperson for the Lejweleputswa police.
Thabana says the family decided to drive around and look for the victim, and eventually spotted the maroon Toyota Hilux belonging to the victim parked on the side of the road.
“They looked for the victim in the nearby bushes where they were met by a horrifying discovery of the victim lying face-down, her head covered with a jacket. She was half-naked,” says Thabana.
The police urge anyone with information that can assist and lead to an arrest to contact Sgt Modupe Thekiso of Welkom Serious and Violent Crimes on 083 929 8149, or the CrimeStop number 08600 10111. Alternatively, a tip-off can be sent anonymously via the My SAPS app.
