The police in Welkom seized illegal cigarettes with an estimated value of R900 000.
On 27 September members of the anti-narcotics unit, in collaboration with the Welkom K9 unit and private security, followed up on information about a load of illegal cigarettes.
The truck was identified and police stopped it on Stateway.
When they opened the door of the truck, the cargo hold appeared to be empty.
However, upon further inspection, a hidden compartment was discovered in the back of the truck. Inside, the police found boxes of cardboard containers with illegal cigarettes.
The 21-year-old suspect was arrested in terms of the Forgery and Possession of Illegal Goods Act. The cigarettes and the Dyno truck were seized.
