Two Goldfields show jumpers, Shaylene Basson and Ryan Martin, took part in the third heat of the Penbritte Thoroughbred Challenge on 9 July, and did very well.

Basson on High Society won four first places in the 80 cm show jumping competition, and with her horse Galileo she won four second places in the same classes.

Martin achieved four first places in the 1 m classes, with his horse Kadush.

The challenge is presented by Penbritte in Johannesburg, in collaboration with SA Show Jumping, for all racehorses who have retired from the sport of racing and are now making a second career of show jumping.

In this competition, Basson and High Society are currently third in the country in the 80 cm class. Martin and Kadush are currently ranked first in the country at the 1 m height.

The final is scheduled for 27 August in Johannesburg.

Both riders are trained by Belinda Basson of the BRS Equestrian Centre outside of Riebeeckstad.
