The Welkom police need to identify the victim of a hit-and-run accident on the R30 road, between Welkom and Theunissen.
On Saturday, 5 February, at about 04:10, the Welkom Police received a call about an accident. They found the deceased lying face down on the road. The bumper of a white vehicle was found next to the body.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that it was a hit-and-run. The deceased was found with multiple fractures, as well as injuries to his head and body,” says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the SAPS in Lejweleputswa.
The deceased was wearing a blue two-piece overall, and he was carrying two cellphones: an AG Mobicel and the second one of an unknown brand. No identity document was found in his possession.
The body was taken to Welkom Forensic Pathology Services and nobody has come forward to claim the deceased.
He is dark in complexion, slender, 1,8 m tall and could be between 40 and 50 years old.
A case of culpable homicide has been registered for further investigation.
