A headmaster and caretaker at a primary school in Meloding, Virginia, was kidnapped and his vehicle hijacked on the school premises.
After the headmaster reported for work on the morning of 12 December to hand over reports to learners and the security guard opened the gate for him, an unknown African male arrived who said he wanted to meet the headmaster.
He was allowed to enter the premises, as children and parents were fetching school reports. The guard left the gate and when he passed the school administration offices, he found the headmaster’s bakkie still idling. He went to his office to inform him that his vehicle’s engine was still running, and was grabbed by force by the suspect.
Inside the office, the principal was standing with his hands tied up behind his back, his mouth taped closed and two more suspects with handguns. The guard was also tied up and the guard’s cellphone was robbed.
The three suspects left with the headmaster, driving his vehicle. Allegedly they demanded cash from the school, but they could not access it. The suspects eventually drove off with the bakkie, leaving the headmaster behind.
A white NP200 Nissan with registration number FLR 387 FS is missing.
A case of kidnapping, business robbery and carjacking has been registered.
