The National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) has shared tips to keep you and your family safe during the heatwave.
Forecast models show that the heatwave will persist, at least, until 26 November.
The key tip on staying safe is staying hydrated. Drinking water throughout the day and avoiding caffeinated drinks and alcohol can help with dehydration. Cooling measures like fans, air conditioners or cold showers can lower your body temperature.
Schedule your outdoor activities to cooler parts of the day like early in the morning or late evening. When you have to be outdoors, try finding some shade to protect yourself from direct exposure sunlight to reduce heat-related illnesses.
Always check on your loved ones. Ensure those vulnerable are well, especially those with pre-existing health conditions. Keep your pets well-hydrated, too, and provide shaded areas so that they can cool off as they can also be affected by this heatwave.
Monitoring weather updates and staying informed can assist one in knowing what to prepare for.
