A gruesome head-on collisionclaimed the lives of three Beatrix mine workers Wednesday morning when the vehicle they were travelling home with landed in front of a truck.
On 24/08 at about 03:00 the driver of the Toyota Corolla that was transporting the mine workers seemingly lost control of the vehicle and drove into the on-coming truck in the opposite lane. The truck was travelling from Welkom towards Theunissen.
Three occupants of the Corolla were confirmed dead at the accident scene and the driver had to be removed from the wreckage with the jaws of life. The truck driver was treated for shock at the scene. He did not sustain any injuries.
Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa police, says preliminary investigations indicate that the three deceased were mine workers of Beatrix mine in the Theunissen district.
The next of kin have not yet been informed about the deaths. The deceased are aged between 45 and 56 years.
A case of Culpable Homicide is being investigated by Sgt. Tlale Mokhele of Theunissen Detective Services.
