Welkom’s own Lizzy Molelekoa has been selected as a semifinalist in the prestigious Mrs Universe beauty pageant.
Molelekoa started her journey in the Mrs South Africa (Mrs SA) competition where she was part of a group of 270 competitors who made it through to the top 100. She was then selected to be part of the top 76.
“My journey in Mrs SA ended on 7 July when I was not selected to be part of the top 30. But this did not daunt me and I turned my goals onto Mrs Universe,” says Molelekoa.
“I found out that my journey was not over and to enter Mrs Universe and qualify as a semifinalist, I had to have made it to the last tier of the Mrs SA competition.
“This automatically qualified me for the semifinals in Mrs Universe,” she says.
The news of her being a semifinalist was announced on 5 August at a gala event held at the Garden Court Eastgate Hotel in Johannesburg.
Molelekoa says the contest is looking for a contestant who will represent South Africa as an ambassador on the global platform.
The purpose of the pageant is to offer South African women, married and divorced, an opportunity to reach a wider audience and to represent South Africa at the Mrs Universe pageantry.
The pageant provides a platform for inspiration, mentoring, and empowerment and contestants raise awareness for organisations that help victims of domestic abuse and violence.
In addition, the Mrs Universe pageant in South Africa is about celebrating the variety of women in the country.
The newly crowned South African Mrs Universe will have an opportunity to compete at the global Mrs Universe pageant, which is the largest pageant in the world for married and divorced women.
Annually, contestants from 100 nations compete in this most renowned international beauty contest to win the coveted title.
The Mrs Universe South Africa grand semifinal judging will be taking place in October 2023, where the top finalists will be announced.
