One of the toughest racing events in South Africa, The Tough One, has been deserving of its name since 1975.
Many long-distance runners consider this the last official race of each year.
Welkom’s very own athletes, calling themselves the Welkom 057 Runners, took part in this year’s race, on Sunday (27/11) in Johannesburg.
“We were very honoured to have one of our legends in the group receive his blue number, meaning he successfully completed ten Tough One races,” says Nkhetheni Masupa, one of the Welkom Runners’ founders.
“Morena Mphojane received his permanent number from the Rand Athletic Club, organisers of The Tough One race.”
