The Phakama youth transformation organisation for sports, arts, education, and skills development was founded by Linda Ngqotwana in 2017, in Kutlaonong, Odendaalsrus.

“We are currently busy with the development of the business-side called Phakama Garden and Lounge, which will have the African heritage museum and different small businesses for local economic development,” he says.

Now under the Phakama Sports and Recreation division, the chess team reached the interprovincial final that was held in the Pretoria North Hall on 16 February.

“This team is battling with financial support. The Matjhabeng municipality has failed young people in sports and arts, and Phakama has not been assisted by them,” he says.

This lack of funding almost prevented these young chess stars from competing on a provincial level.
