Phehellang Tlholo NPC is a community development project established in 2020.
The project is situated at 3674 Dr Mngoma Road, Thabong, and started as a charity organisation that served as a caregiver to the needy, the elderly, orphanages, and the unemployed through a soup kitchen, acting as a clothing and blankets provider, as well as a shelter.
“But, unfortunately, along the way it failed and was forced to dissolve due to a lack of funds, resources and proper facilities to operate,” says Andrew Koai, spokesperson for the non-profit oranisation.
This meaningful and stimulating endeavour is the brainchild of two concerned women, Thandi Diratsile and Sellwane Petleki.
“These two women never gave up after the failure of their first project. They embarked on a craft project of making mats. Perseverance is a mother of success. Fortunately, the National Lotteries Commission recently funded them and they are using the funds on job creation and skill development programmes,” says Koai.
They are training out-of-school, unemployed youth and adults in manufacturing leather products such as belts, bags, earrings and shoes.
The current series of classes with ten trainees started on 1 November at the Lejweleputswa Arts and Culture Centre, behind the Thabong Community Centre.
Those who are interested in registering for the classes or who would like more information can contact Diratsile on 081-095-5228, or Petleki on 083-689-1186.
