This recognition marks a significant achievement in the group’s journey, reflecting their commitment to preserving and promoting South Africa’s rich cultural heritage.

This male dominant group is known for their vibrant blend of music, poetry, and dance.

“It feels great to be nominated for the SATMA Awards, and we are very excited that our music and craft are being recognised. This is our first big nomination within the music industry,” they say.

The nomination underscores the cultural significance of the group’s work and their dedication to their art.

Their sounds afe rooted in the sounds of legendary artists such as Ladysmith Black Mambazo, The Soil, Bayete, Miriam Makeba, and Tshepo Tshola.

“We usually listen to more rooted sounds,” they noted, reflecting on the diverse musical heritage that shapes their creative process.

The group also highlighted the importance of preserving and promoting cultural heritage through their music.

They say their biggest influences have always been Ladysmith Black Mambazo and The Soil, as well as Tswana Traditional Dance music, Zulu, and Sesotho traditions.

They were part of these groups growing up, and fans will find them incorporating traditional dances in their performances and even in their music.

Mohlakeng Acapellas emphasised the significance of maintaining these traditional sounds for future generations.

The group is committed to ensuring that their work stays true to their roots, contributing to the enduring legacy of South African music.

Mohlakeng Acapellas were the winners of the Ladysmith Black Mambazo Mobile Academy in 2019. They are a dynamic group consisting of six members: Morapeli Motaung, Montshiwa Mokoena, Lucky Puso, Ithabeleng Putsoane, Teboho Macheli, and Mpho Radebe.

Since their formation, the group has captivated audiences with performances across the province and country, sharing the stage with national and international artists such as The Soil, Judith Sephuma, Tshepo Tshola, Ringo Madlingozi, Sibongile Khumalo, Cassper, Nyovest, Khaya, Mafikizolo, as well as Mi Casa, and many others.
