The Northern Free State Clivia Club is hosting the annual Clivia Show on 9 and 10 September at the Dutch Reformed Church (DRC) hall, corner of Stateway and Arrarat Road, Welkom.

Judging, done by the esteemed clivia judge and expert, Andre du Toit, commences on 8 September. The show will be open to the public on 9 September from 08:00 to 16:00, and on the next day, Sunday, from 09:00 to 12:00.

“This year, for the first time, the club is offering all clivia enthusiasts the opportunity of showing their beautiful plants. If you believe that you have a winning bloom, please bring your cut flower in water or as a potted plant to the church hall on Saturday morning before 11:00,” says Pauline Mattana, club member.

“The winner will be announced at the end of the afternoon.”

The flower or plant must be clearly marked with the owner’s telephone details.

“You may well even become the first Community Clivia Winner,” says Mattana.

Enthusiasts are invited to bring friends and family along and enjoy this beautiful, indigenous plant in all its glory.

The weekend holds much promise, as clivias will be on sale on both the Saturday and Sunday. There will be a food stall and refreshments will be available for sale.

The Northern Free State Clivia Club is open for membership.

“At present there are 22 members, and they meet quarterly. The club has been in existence for 16 years and started with only six members in 2007.”
