One of the weapons taken during an armed robbery at Unisel Gold Mine was found while members of the Knock Out Team were conducting an investigation on illicit mining action in Hani Park, Bronville.
On Tuesday (02/08) the team, comprising SAPS members and mine security, were following up on information they received when they noticed an African man running away from them when he saw the SAPS and mine security vehicles.They gave chase and saw the man throw the firearm into the yard of one of the nearby houses.
The suspect escaped but the firearm, with eleven live rounds, was found and seized. It was determined that the firearm was one of those stolen during a business robbery on 31 July at Unisel Gold Mine when private security personnel were robbed of three pistols and an assault rifle.
