Six illegal miners were arrested at opencast pits in the Beatrix Mine Shaft 4 area.
These arrests follow the continued foot, air-to-ground drone and vehicle patrols done by the combat and proactive teams in the Beatrix Mine area.
On Thursday the team arrived at the first pit, where three men were busy with illegal open-cast mining activity. Gold-bearing material weighing 12,08 kg and one lephenduka were seized. Suspects aged 25, 30 and 38 were arrested.
The operation continued and three more male suspects were found at another spot, busy with the same kind of activity.
Gold-bearing material weighing 12,36 kg and another lephenduka were seized.
The three men, aged 28, 29 and 33, were arrested.
Cases of possession of suspected gold-bearing material, as well as gold processing equipment, with an additional charge of contravention of the Immigration Act were opened at the Theunissen Police Station.
