The Cars and Coffee Show and Shine Competition that was held at McGuffies Pub in Riebeeckstad was a roaring success.
Despite sweltering 38 °C weather conditions the event saw a significant turnout, with numerous supporters and car enthusiasts coming together to celebrate their shared passion for automobiles of whatever size and shape.
“The day was filled with excitement as participants brought along their prized possessions. Among the standout entries was a lot of shining motorcars, gleaming under the South African sun, and a stunning black Lifted Ford Wildtrack double cab truck, its finish shining like a polished gem,” says Frikkie de Necker, a member of the Welkom Old Auto Club.
The sight of these machines was a testament to the love and dedication of their owners.
There were even one or two classic cars of the glory of the era of some 35 to 40 years ago.
De Necker says the competition was fierce, with each entrant vying for the coveted prizes.
“True to form, Cars and Coffee did not disappoint; there were enough stalls where you could satisfy those hunger pangs as well. The competition offered fantastic prizes that left most of the entrants walking away with more than just memories of a wonderful day. There were also raffles with some decent prizes for the connoisseurs.”
The show and shine was also graced with the two Datsun Stanzas of the Brothers in Prime, Benjamin (11) and Christopher (9) de Necker of Cars in the Parkfame. The brothers showed off their “toys” to everyone’s delight.
“The atmosphere was electric, filled with the sounds of revving engines, the smell of motor oil, and the shared excitement of everyone present,” says De Necker.
This event was held in aid of The Blessings Animal Shelter in Welkom. The day turned out to be a success and generous donors gave just half a ton of dog and cat food, and nearly R4 000.
“This is to be used as they please for the well-being of our animal friends. We are looking forward to the next event, and one can only imagine what automotive marvels will be on display next time.
“One thing is for sure – it will be another day of camaraderie, competition, and most importantly: a celebration of the automobile together with mans best friend, our poor abused and dumped animal friends.”
