A community leader led by example by donating his 16th unit of blood on 7 January.

“I encourage the community to donate blood,” says Joy Makhathe.

“Donating a unit of this precious gift of life saves the lives of those in dire need of blood.”

As blood is separated into red blood cells, plasma and platelets, one unit of blood can save up to three lives.

“One must develop a habit of donating blood. This will enable the SANBS to collect sufficient blood and, as a result, ensure that quality blood is always available in cases of emergency.”
