Three police officers from Gauteng were arrested after they robbed a Welkom man of his cellphone at a filling station in Jan Cillierspark.
They face a charge of common robbery, and made their first appearance in the Welkom Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 15 July.
Keabetswe Menyatso, Tshenolo Moloi and Mahlodi Mahlala are alleged to have robbed the man of his cellphone while dressed in full police uniform.
After the incident the victim went to the Welkom Police Station, where a case of robbery and impersonating police officers was opened.
The ensuing investigation revealed that the trio were in fact SAPS members.
They were arrested on 13 July.
