Acting on information received, the Welkom Anti-Gang unit recovered a 12-gauge shotgun in Phuthaditjhaba.
On Tuesday, 9 April, members of the unit followed up information about an unlicensed firearm in Phuthaditjhaba. They found the firearm hidden near an open field in Bluegumbosch.
“The firearm will be sent for ballistics testing and an enquiry docket was registered at the Phuthaditjhaba Police Station,” says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa police.
Back in Lejweleputswa on Wednesday, 10 April, at about 17:30, the Welkom Anti-Gang unit received intelligence-led information about the whereabouts of a wanted suspect in Kutlwanong, Odendaalsrus.
“It is alleged that the suspect is wanted for a business burglary incident committed in February at one of the local taverns. Members managed to locate the suspect and apprehend him while trying to run away in K6 Section, Kutlwanong,” says Thakeng.
The 24-year-old suspect will appear in the Odendaalsrus Magistrates’ Court soon for business burglary.
