The Welkom flying squad received a tip-off that led to the arrest of four suspects with two unlicensed firearms in Wesselsbron.
They received information about occupants travelling with a charcoal BMW with FS number plates, it was alleged that the suspects are involved in criminal acts in the North West province and they were on their way to the Free State through Hoopstad on 15 December.
A way-lay was conducted at the crossing of Wesselsbron /Bultfontein /Bothaville/Welkom and the vehicle indeed came travelling from Hoopstad.
The driver was stopped and searched, two firearms and 21 live ammunition were found inside the boot and seized.
Nobody inside the vehicle could provide licenses for their firearms which led to their arrest. The four suspects are two South Africans and two foreign nationals with passports aged from 32 to 37 years old. They were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and the BMW was also seized.
Sgt Sabata Tsotsotso, Sgt Joseph Johapi and WO Thabo Sekgonyane of the Welkom Flying Squad made the arrests. The four suspects will appear in the Wesselsbron Magistrate Court on 20 December.
