In a major breakthrough, four suspects were arrested by the Hawks for a cash-in-transit heist that occurred at the beginning of October.

The suspects are aged between 36 and 48 years.

The arrests relate to an incident on Monday, 3 October, in Virginia.

Security personnel of G4S were busy delivering money at a bank in Government Avenue, Virginia.

One of the security officials exited the armoured vehicle carrying three bags containing an undisclosed amount of money. The other security official remained in the vehicle.

On his way to the bank, the first security official was confronted by five suspects armed with firearms. They ordered everyone to lie down as they fired shots through the window of the armoured vehicle. They then robbed the security guard of his service pistols and fled the scene with the undisclosed amount of money. No one was injured during the incident.

The suspects were traced and arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team based in Welkom, together with the Tactical Response Team (TRT) based in Bloemfontein, on Monday, 10 October.

They were arrested in Thabong and Botshabelo.
