Four suspects made a brief appearance in the Virginia Magistrates’ Court, facing charges of housebreaking and theft.
On Sunday, 16 July, there was a housebreaking and theft incident at a house in Highlands Avenue, Virginia. Sgts Bridgette Mothudi, Motsamai Radiopane, Jacobus Bekker, and Const. Mosa Magcuntsu conducted a preliminary investigation at the surrounding area of the crime scene.
During the tracing operation after the incident was reported by the complainant, stolen items were found in an open field near the complainant’s house within a few hours.
With the help of the community members, four suspects were arrested after they were found with suspected stolen items such as expensive bags, sunglasses, sneakers, and jewellery which were sold around Virginia and Meloding on the following Saturday and Sunday.
The suspects, Lefa Nakane (27), Mosa Mucane (19), Oratilwe Kabedi (18), and a 17-year-old juvenile appeared in court on 20 July and the case was postponed to 26 July for bail application.
Three of the suspects are still in custody, while the 17-year-old was released into the care of his parent.
Some of the stolen items which include a laptop, plasma TV, expensive jewellery, and sneakers are still missing.
